Kevin Giffhorn founded WeLearn™ Educational Software in May, 2011. With over 15 years of classroom experience and a love for technology, he demonstrates that technology plays a key role in education. WeLearn™’s software does that – it augments the curriculum but never overwhelms it. eNotebook™ is the first product set to launch from WeLearn™ Educational Software with other products in development.
Monica Giffhorn, Chief Marketing Officer
Monica Giffhorn serves as Chief Marketing Officer of WeLearn™ Educational Software. She has over 15 years of marketing experience in the fields of technology and education. As Digital Director for Kinetics Marketing and Communications, Ms. Giffhorn has created and executed marketing plans for technology, healthcare, education and financial clients. She is well-versed in all forms of marketing, including Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Online Advertising, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Online Reputation Management, Public Relations, Events, TV, Radio, Print and Online Video.
In her previous roles, Ms. Giffhorn served as Marketing Director for Advertising.com, a technology start-up that was later acquired by AOL for $450 million. She also served as Marketing Manager for HT Medical Systems, a high-tech medical education start-up that was later acquired by Immersion Corporation, a haptic (touch feedback) technology company. Prior to HT Medical Systems, Ms. Giffhorn worked for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Technology Laboratories and marketed Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Processing, Signal Processing and Information Security.
Ms. Giffhorn holds a B.A. in Communications from Villanova University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Marketing Management from Johns Hopkins University. She was awarded Villanova University’s Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Communications, Johns Hopkins University’s Stegman Award for Excellence in Business Education and several awards from the Society for Technical Communication.
Kevin Giffhorn, President
Kevin Giffhorn, a National Board Certified Teacher, brings over 15 years educational experience as a high-school mathematics teacher, department chairperson and adjunct college professor, as well as previous experience running large-scale technology pilot programs. As a finalist for Maryland Teacher of the Year in 2004, Mr. Giffhorn received an interactive whiteboard, tablets and student feedback devices for use in the classroom. He took this technology, adapted it to his classroom, and ended up piloting a technology-led program for the entire county of over 3,200 teachers and over 27,000 students. Recently, Mr. Giffhorn was awarded the Carroll County Outstanding Educator with Technology in 2007 and the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics High School Teacher of the Year in 2011.
Mr. Giffhorn also has technology experience outside the classroom. He worked as an engineering salesperson for Matthews International—learning the technology systems, working with corporate clients and troubleshooting technology as necessary. He was also a Captain in the U.S. Army National Guard in the Field Artillery, serving as a Fire Support Officer, Fire Direction Officer, and Executive Officer of a 6-gun firing battery and over 100 soldiers.
Mr. Giffhorn holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Millersville University, a teaching certificate from Pennsylvania State University and an M.S. in Mathematics Education from Hood College. He was also awarded the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship and spent three weeks in Japan collaborating with leaders in all levels of education. In addition to being a teacher, Mr. Giffhorn is the parent of a child in elementary school who shares his passion for both technology and running.
